Irene Mae Speers, at 100 years of age, of Fairport, NY, passed on to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Fairport Baptist Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 11:00am at the Fairport Baptist Home Chapel, Fairport, NY, officiated by Reverend Matthew Robinson, of Martinsburg, WV, grandson-in-law of Irene. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Phelps, NY at 1:30pm. Visitation will be held Sunday July 7, 2019 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at David A. Doser Funeral Home in Fairport, NY.
Irene was born October 3, 1918 in Walworth, NY to Edward and Mary (Hermanet) DeGroot. She spent her childhood helping her Father, Mother, 4 Sisters and 1 Brother on the family farm and she graduated from Ontario High School. After graduating from high school she went on to beauty school and opened and operated her salon in Walworth, NY. She then married Harold L. Speers on February 26, 1941 in Walworth, NY and then resided in Fairport and were married for over 50 years. She worked with her husband at Taylor Instrument Co. and later opened a beauty shop in her home. They enjoyed traveling around the country together in retirement in their RV.
Irene had two children whom she loved dearly, Leonard Edward Speers, born December 5, 1947 (Chambersburg, PA) and Marilyn Elizabeth Tucker (Coldwater, MI), born August 19, 1952. She enjoyed being a mother and instilling hard work ethics and was proud of her son who became a Mechanical Engineer for over 40 years and her daughter who was an elementary teacher for nearly 30 years.
She is predeceased by her husband, daughter, sisters (Marjorie Rothfuss, Mabel Reynolds, Elizabeth Luke) and brother (Raymond DeGroot). She is survived by her son (wife Kathy Speers), son-in-law Daniel Tucker, 5 grandchildren Danielle Tucker, Christopher Speers, Rachel Tucker, Tiffanie Robinson (husband Matthew Robinson), Heather Meyers (husband Corey Meyers), 6 great-grandchildren Sydney Mauk, Noah Robinson, Maggie Mae Robinson, Titus Robinson, Aleida VanderHoff , and expectant baby Meyers, 1 sister Evelyn Winters and many nieces and nephews.
Her ending prayer is best said in John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Him will not parish but have everlasting life.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Fairport Methodist Church.
