Joseph F. Slisz,Jr. of Fairport, New York on August 02, 2019. Joe is predeceased by his parents Joseph Sr. and Sophie (Iwanski) Slisz; brother, Henry; sister-in-law Marge and brother-in-law Paul Ludwig. Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ellen (Frasher) Slisz; daughters, Beth (John) Bolton of VA; Meg (Mike) Milligan of NJ; sons, Greg (Mandy) of Syracuse, Tim of Fairport, and Peter of WA. Papa was blessed by 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Lorraine Ludwig of Hamburg, brother FR. Charles of Buffalo and sister-in-law Sue Witzel of Rochester.
Joe grew up in Buffalo. He enlisted in the Navy after graduating from East High School, then attended Cornell University, graduating in 1950. He spent the next few years working for three farms in Livingston County when he met Mary Ellen at the Linwood Music School. It was here that many dear and lifelong friendships were made.
Completing his Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Buffalo, Joe took a job at BOCES #1 in Fairport. He was instrumental in the creation of many programs at BOCES, the BOCES employee's union and the BOCES Federal Credit Union.
Being the consummate educator, Joe donated his body to the University of Rochester anatomical gift program so that others can continue to learn from him. A Celebration Mass will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Assumption Church 20 East Avenue Fairport, NY at 11:00 AM.
