Catherine M. Spriggs

Catherine M. Wangler Spriggs passed away on July 30th, 2022 surrounded by family at her home in Fairport, NY.  Cathy was born in Yonkers on November 13, 1942.  She was the oldest daughter to Dorothy A. Tiernan and Charles D. Wangler II.  After World War II, Cathy and her parents moved to Ogdensburg, NY.  Cathy graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1960.  In 1961, Cathy married Richard L. Bean and together they had two beautiful daughters; Deborah and Michelle, who were both with her to the very end. 

 Cathy’s entire career was devoted to the State of New York, retiring in 1997.  In her earlier years, Cathy resided in Wingdale, Ogdensburg, and Massena NY before finally relocating to Fairport.  Cathy is survived by her two wonderful daughters, Deborah L. Bean and her lifelong sweetheart Douglas R. Spooner of Fairport; Michelle M. McDonald and her husband Jeffrey D. McDonald of Myrtle Beach S.C.; one younger sister Rose A. Wangler of Bennington, VT and one younger brother Michael F. Wangler of Dewitt, NY; and many nieces and nephews.  Cathy was pre-deceased by her parents and two younger brothers, James P. Wangler and Charles D. Wangler III.  

Cathy was a devoted daughter, a loving mother, an amazing sister, and a true friend to many.  Cathy was a true believer who taught those around her to keep the faith, there is always hope, love unconditionally, be respectful, kind and joyful; stand true to yourself, advocate for what is right, and don’t be afraid to speak up.  She was a social butterfly who deeply loved her family and friends, holidays, special occasions, flowers and gardening, animals, shopping, and traveling. The joy she brought to others will certainly be remembered.

A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held at 10am on September 8th, 2022 at Church of the Assumption, 20 East Ave, Fairport, NY 14450. A graveside service will be held at 1pm on September 9th at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Ogdensburg, NY 13669. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks to consider donating to Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450.
