Hélène Vernou Case Obituary
Hélène V. Case passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024 at the age of 95. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Perry, son-in-law Paul Perry, granddaughters Ariel and Kyrie Perry, step-grandchildren Luke and Marie Perry, and great-grandchildren Piper and Eloise Mallon and Jameson Perry.
A Swarthmore College graduate, Hélène was busy with interests in archaeology, botany, music, painting, gardening, and museums. She also held a valuable teaching career for 23 years, teaching at the Columbia Prep School of Rochester, New York and the Allendale Columbia School.
She volunteered at the Archaeological Institute of America’s Rochester Society for 34 years as the Coordinator, Programs and Membership, as well as Editor of the newsletter. She also served on the Boards of the English-Speaking Union, the Burroughs Audubon Club, and the American Recorder Society.
She was a keen traveler in the United Kingdom and Europe, and in 1970, she spent a sabbatical at Oxford in England, making lifelong friends and using what she learned there in her history classes. She was bilingual in French and English, and studied additional languages to enhance her travels. She played piano and woodwind instruments and composed music. She was also an avid photographer and portrait artist. Hélène leaves a legacy that her family will always admire.
Hélène will be interred next to her mother, Grace Hoover Bridge, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 25 Westminster Road in Rochester, New York. Memorials may be made to Burroughs Audubon Club in Victor, NY.
