IRENE WYNKOOP PATTISON passed peacefully into Heaven and the loving arms of God on December 8, 2014 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, where she was a hospice resident. She was predeceased, in 1988, by her husband, Charles L. Pattison.
Born in Home, PA on Halloween in 1921, her family, ultimately consisting of eight children, moved multiple times during the 1920s and The Great Depression, as her father was reassigned by the B&0 Railroad to various stations in Central Pennsylvania, finally relocating to Elkland, PA, where she graduated from Elkland High School at the age of 15.
After high school, she worked at Donley’s Drug Store in Elkland and was a Certified Pharmacist Apprentice. On May 31, 1942, she married Charles, then in Officers’ Candidate School. She later joined Cpt. Pattison at his post in Puerto Rico, where she served as a civilian employee of the US Army until late 1945. After a brief return to Elkland, the Pattison family moved to Corning and then South Corning, where she lived until 1988.
After moving to Fairport, NY, she became the blessing of her family, the Pattison Matriarch and the after-school presence for two of her many beloved grandchildren for more than twelve years. A mainstay of Woodbury Commons in Fairport, she could be seen on her daily walk around the community. Her legacy to her three children, Jean P. (Gary) Baker of Syracuse, Chuck (Christina) Pattison of Brighton and John (Paula) Pattison of Fairport, her nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren is, in the words of one of her grandsons, “that we try to live every day with her joy, patience, positivity and love - she is our hero and our Mama.”
As was Irene’s wish, private services and burial are planned by the family.
