Joan Varone
Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother - December 27, 1929 – April 22, 2021. Originally from Park Slope in Brooklyn, NY, Joan was one of seven children. She is predeceased by her six siblings and her husband Lou, of 64 years. She leaves behind 4 children: Bob Varone (Kathy), Donna Harmon (Dan), Kathy Varone (Don), Pete Varone (Gerry), 13 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren, with one more arriving this summer. As a young woman, Joan loved dancing the lindy and foxtrot with her sister and friends. She worked as a secretary for Home Title in Brooklyn, where she met Lou, her future husband. After raising her children, Joan enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, listening to Sinatra, Como, and other crooners, and watching old movies. She loved to eat out with family and friends, and no matter how much pasta she ate, she never declined dessert. She loved playing Bingo at St. John’s Meadows, and would be thrilled when she won the $1.25 grand prize. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her large family. She never missed a family event and always had hugs, kisses, and a big smile for everyone, especially her grandchildren. Her grandkids will miss laughing at her tendency to turn a phrase from her youth in many of their conversations. We all will miss her warm, loving presence and her innocence about life.
