Julia Jayne, of Fairport, New York, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023, surrounded by her
loving family. Her vibrant spirit will forever shine in the lives of all who love her.
Juli was born on January 24, 1945, in Rochester, New York, to George and Aida Shulenburg. Her
foster parents, Mike and Florence Daltilio, provided her with a nurturing home. She shared close
bonds with her foster sister, Sharon, and foster brother, Rick.
Juli's love for children guided her career path. She graduated from Brockport College in 1967 and
began teaching first grade at Brooks Hill Elementary School. It was here that she met Tom, who
would become her beloved partner for almost 55 years.
Juli's life lessons extended far beyond the classroom. She was an avid equestrian and loved to share
her passion with others. Dozens of children learned to ride and care for horses through her business
The Mounting Block. Former students often returned to the barn with their own children,
testament to her ability to foster a sense of family.
Julia's artistic talents also shone brightly. As a puppeteer, she enchanted the community with her gifts
for storytelling and innovation. Her magical puppets brought joy to countless audiences, while her
handcrafted stuffed animals were usually hugged until their fur faded or their seams gave out.
As she endured treatments for glioblastoma, Juli found comfort in reading, drawing, and playing
trivia with her husband and brother-in-law, Ron. She relished the friendly competition and the bonds
of family. She adored clever wordplay and horrible puns.
Juli's spirit lives on through her husband, Tom, and her children: Tierney (Andrew) McKee, Michael
(Amy), and Mary (the late Bill) Durham. She will always hold a special place in the hearts of her
grandsons, Colin Mckee and Dylan McKee. She will also be cherished by her extended family and
friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Junc 20th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Doser Funeral Home in Fairport.
Friends and family are invited to come together during this time to share memories of Juli. A
celebration of Jull's remarkable legacy will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider :
