My cousin, Karen, was born only ten days before I was. At Schreckendgust family gatherings growing up, Karen and I shared age-mate experiences and she entertained me with jokes and stories about growing up on the remote and mysterious East Coast. More importantly, Karen helped me fend off attacks from our other cousins. They might launch surprise missiles from any direction in the form of pine cones or hay bales or worse, but Karen could always be counted on joining me in outrage or in scheming a counter-attack. She was my ally.
I will remember Karen as a generous and loving cousin/childhood friend who died way too early.

Our family misses Karen (my sister). She had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to cook and plan celebrations of any kind. She always made them special. Halloween was one of her favorite holidays and she went all out on decorations. She spent many wonderful years with her partner Tom and their kitties. The world will be a lonelier place without her. Many thanks to the all the folks who posted memories and condolences on her facebook page. She was one of a kind and a very special person.
