Evelyn. Survived by three sons: Stephen (Lihua), Kevin, and James
(Alice) Rowe; sister Priscilla (Warren) Abbey, brother David (Ruth)
Rowe; grandchildren Kristin, Matt, Kevin, Yiqing, Daniel, Jennifer,
Nicholas, Christopher, and Elizabeth; and eight great grandchildren.
Dr. Rowe was born in Dunkirk, New York, January 23, 1917. He
received his B.A. from Colgate University in 1938 (Phi Beta Kappa)
and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School (cum laude) in 1941. His
fellowship was completed in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in
1943. Dr. Rowe was appointed surgeon Lt. in the U.S. Navy in August
1941 and was honorably discharged in November 1942. Dr. Rowe entered
private practice in July, 1941, in Rochester, New York and was named
Fellow to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 1951. He
was an Associate Clinical Professor in Orrthopaedic Surgery at the
University of Rochester School of Medicine for many years. From 1956
to 1962, Dr. Rowe served as the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at
Rochester General Hospital. From 1953 to 1980, Dr. Rowe was a
consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery at Eastman Kodak Company.
Dr. Rowe was a pioneer in the field of Industrial Orthopaedics in the
United States. He conducted a landmark study of industrial low back
pain disability at Eastman Kodak from 1960 - 1979. He published
extensively in Occupational Medical journals and lectured widely
throughout the U.S. and Canada. He authored two books on
orthopaedics. From 1991 to 1998, Dr. Rowe served as program
coordinator of the Retired Physicians Group of the Rochester Academy
of Medicine.
Internment at White Haven Memorial Park. Services will be held at
the convenience of the family.
