MARION GALLAHAN Obituary

Marion Weller Gallahan, 92, passed away on August 02, 2020 at the Fairport Baptist Homes where she has resided for the past year.  Marion was born in 1928 in Clayton, NY to Irene Gushlaw Weller and William L. Weller.  She was predeceased by her husband Francis "Bud" Gallahan.

Marion grew up in Clayton, NY which is on the St. Lawrence River.  She loved Clayton and the River.  She was a true "River Rat" and was happiest when she was in her beloved Clayton and near, on, or in the River.

At age 16, Marion graduated from Clayton High School and entered nurses training at The Genesee Hospital in Rochester, NY.  Marion was a proud graduate of the Genesee Hospital School of Nursing where she worked for many years in various nursing and supervisory positions.  When The Genesee Hospital was opening their cardiac care unit (CCU), Hospital Nursing Administration asked her to join the nursing team to help in the development of the CCU and to care for patients in that Unit. She also worked as a private duty nurse for several years and after caring for a patient at Genesee hospital who was then transferred to the Brightonian Nursing Home, she was asked by the family to continue to care for him at the nursing home and was eventually asked to become the Assistant Director of Nursing at that facility.  Following that position, she conducted Medicare utilization and quality review of nursing homes in the western New York area.  She was a phenomenal nurse who received many accolades from nursing and physician colleagues, as well as patients and their families.

She is survived by her children; Jackie (Dale) Pensgen, Randy (Fran) Gallahan, and Cathy (Stephen) Keating, her grandchildren Amy Ofinowicz, Emily (Matthew) Palmer, Kelly (Simon) Carson, Craig (Natalie) Keating, Meghan (Pat) Graham, and Timothy Gallahan, her great grandchildren Kyle Ofinowicz, Hailey and Cameron Palmer, Chloe, Jack and Grace Carson, Poppy Keating and Lyla and Lucy Graham as well as cousins and friends including her special life long friend Corky Massecar.

The family would like to especially thank Christine Perez for all her wonderful and loving care of Marion these last few years.

A big thank you to the staff at Fairport Baptist Homes, especially the staff on 2A, 3A and 2E, Nursing Administration, Kelsey Gendron, MSW, Chaplin Doug Allen, and Melissa Pullen, RN, NP.
