Margaret Kellum Northrup: ( 1912 - 2013 ) of Pittsford, New York.  Margaret passed away in her sleep early on the morning of January 02, 2013.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Marge lived life with real gusto and was a true Renaissance woman.  She was an accomplished athlete who excelled in tennis, golf, swimming and basketball.  She was the woman's golf and tennis champion of Cleveland, Ohio, was a synchronized swimmer in Billy Rose's Aquacade and played women's basketball for Ohio Wesleyan University.

Her career was punctuated by  a commitment to community and a strong sense of giving back.  She excelled as a physical education teacher, high school guidance counselor, and as a long-time counselor and programmer for seniors at the Brighton Senior Center until the age of 81.  In retirement she served twice as the President of the Resident's Council at the Highlands of Pittsford.  Her poems about aging were insightful and witty and were enjoyed by all who read them.  In 2003 she received Lifespan's Eli Rudin Second Half Hero Award.  At age 100 she was still leading a poetry class for the residents at the Highlands Living Center!  One of her great joys was  to take on, and severely trounce, all of those who dared to play her in the word game Upwords.

She truly excelled as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend.  Marge highly valued  her loyal circle of friends who were always there for her.  She was deeply loved and respected by her children Terrie Northrup and Bill Northrup, by her grandchildren Billy Northrup, Beth Northrup, Caitlin McKillop, and Hannah McKillop and by her great grandchildren Savannah Coen, Michael Coen, Cierra Northrup, Leah Coen, Max Coen and Aiden Northrup.  She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

A memorial service in celebration of Marge will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 05, 2013 at the First Unitarian Church of Rochester, 220 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14610.  We invite friends to come wearing bright colors to celebrate the joy and humor that characterized Marge's life.
