A cherished mother, scholar (Nazareth University, SUNY Brockport, SUNY Empire State University, St. John Fisher University), and beacon of strength. She left us peacefully and unencumbered on March 24, 2025, at the age of 84, from the comfort and safety of her own home in Fairport.
Predeceased by her mother, Mary O’Brien Nolan, and her aunt Elizabeth Todd (C.D.), brothers Michael E. Nolan and Patrick O. Nolan, granddaughter Joan Lynn.
Mary Jayne lived a life marbled by love, resilience and an unwavering commitment to those she held dear. She leaves behind a legacy of her greatest gifts to the World:
She is survived by her daughters Jeanne Eileen (Va.), Joi Mary (Douglas DuMond); sons James Michael (Va.), Jeffrey Patrick (Gr.), Joseph Holmes (Ana), divested son John A (Sharon Kofod); grandchildren Jarrod and Jason DuMond, Jacob, Amelia, Leah, and Hayden, great-grandchildren Jayden and Jenna.
Her sisters, Julia McKane and Maureen Nolan, Cousin Betty Claire Ruppert (Va., Frank), niece Cassie McKane (Chris) and nephew Michael Nolan (Cheryl Eddinger)) will also carry her memory forward.
A woman of remarkable intellect and spirit, Mary Jayne earned her MLitt in 2022 and had bestowed upon her an Honorary PhD in 2024.
She touched countless lives with her wisdom, kindness and exhaustive volunteer and community work. She faced life’s challenges with strength, dignity and courage. Mary Jayne oft paraphrased that “a coward dies many deaths; the Valiant die but once.”
Our Harvest Queen will now ascend to the Summit of Mount Pleasant, where she will take her rightful place in the East Meadow.
A Requiem Mass celebrating Mary Jayne’s Earthly and Eternal Life will be held at the Church of the Assumption in Fairport, NY, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 10:00 in the forenoon.
Requiem Aeternam dona eis Domine.
